Yara/Tristan represents the need for acceptance. As Tristan, he is isolated within the School for Boys. Only Tedros sees him as a friend. The rest see him as weak and torment him. As Yara, however, Tristan finds a type of acceptance. Though he does not talk, and rarely spends time directly with the girls, he is welcome in their school. He is allowed to do whatever he wants, including dancing and attending any classes he chooses. The girls never turn him away. This is the acceptance that Tristan is willing to help the Dean for- a chance to be who he is and not what others want him to be.
