In The Scarlet Letter, how does Chillingworth figure out that Dimmesdale is Pearl's father?

In Hawthorn's Scarlet Letter, Chillingworth is set on figuring out who was involved with Hester. He sees Dimmesdale defend Hester when they are going to take away Pearl and this raises suspension, but he is sure when he visits Dimmesdale in his room.
