What is the author's style in The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis?

Ellis' casual style of writing is very believable for the campus life. The thoughts and words of the characters are laced with a healthy measure of expletives. The dialog between the young students is realistic in its frankness and flippancy. The author reveals the thoughts of the characters which more often than not differs from his words.
