Since the novel is set in Europe, English is the most commonly used language among the characters. Osla is the only one with an occasional German message that is translated the moment it is used. This means that the overall vocabulary is semi-advanced, but easy to follow. Furthermore, the language of each character is different from each other. Osla’s writings are carefree while Francis’s are poetic and long.
