There is nothing terribly remarkable about the language of this novel. Though it is a novel that deals with law and lawyers, there are not a good deal of technical terms used. This makes sense because the main characters — Zola, Mark and Todd — are not licensed lawyers. They do not know a good deal of legalese. They are familiar with the statute of limitations, which they allow to run out in Ramon’s medical malpractice case, but have never even heard of errors and omissions insurance. This term refers to the type of insurance lawyers have to cover them in case they make a mistake in their practice, similar to malpractice insurance for doctors.
