Supernatural about Bassett

Basset seems to believe that Master Paul gets his horse names through some divinatory experience. Basset discusses Paul's "gift" as if he were discussing "religious matters". I don't think that Basset is supranatural himself rather than he lends a sense of credibility to the idea that Paul might be linked with the metaphysical.
