In a paragraph, explain what you think Cassie means when she says, “That was the way of things.”

Cassie is referring to racism, and the way blacks were treated. She mentions the way talking back to a white man could get you into trouble.... get you slapped.... and how hitting a white man could get you killed... and that's just the was it was.
