In Chapter Eleven, the author introduces the white jewel house, a symbol of wealth and success in Mohawk. Ned spends hours gazing at the white jewel house from a hidden spot in Myrtle Park, wondering about the people who live in the home. This foreshadows the fact that Ned will eventually get to know the family in the white jewel house very well.
