The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Why do you think the Mariner never explains his reason for killing the albatross?

The main reason that he doesn't give one is that he doesn't really have one. They had hit the doldrums and there was no wind. People were bored. Without thinking, without reason.....he kills the bird. There was little thought in it at all, so no real reason to offer.
