What is the author's tone in The Regulators by Stephen King?

The premise of this novel is that some sort of entity has come to live inside the mind and body of an autistic boy. This entity uses untapped paranormal powers inside the child's mind to control those around him.The tone of the story is ominous and at times frightening. The story is tense ans suspenseful.
