What is Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven about?

The Raven, by Edgar Allen Poe was written just shortly prior to his wive's death. In this poem he speaks about the devastating loss of someone dearly loved. He espouses that a part of him is lost as well and that his spirits will not ever be lifted from the depression and sadness that he feels.
