What was at the heart of the Arab oil embargo? How did other countries feel about the issues?

The U.S. support of Israel was a major factor in the embargo. Arab countries wanted the US to reduce or cease its support of Israel. Other countries, such as France and Japan, supported the Arab position, in part because they wanted to maintain their own supply of oil.
