The Suez Canal is a 100 mile waterway that stretches between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. It was completed in 1869 and it cut the travel times from the Middle East to Europe in half. England bought a percentage of the Canal and established a troop presence along it to secure it for oil transportation.
