Lorraine's feelings toward John change and evolve throughout the story. That she's been friends with him for a while is evident in their level of comfort and knowledge about one another. At the beginning she easily and freely admits that John is a liar about many things. Later, though, when they both dress up in the Pignati's clothes their friendship becomes more than friendship.
