What is striking and unique about Steinbeck's writing? What makes his writing different?

I think Steinbeck's writing gifts are the ability tom say so much with so little. His descriptions of people and landscapes carry emotion and detail that also represent themes and motifs of the narrative. Steinbeck's characters represent different aspects of society. His writing is organic, almost like a painting.
