The Outsiders

In Chapter 6 of "The Outsiders" they said, "So Cherry Valance, the cheerleader, Bob's girl, the Soc, was trying to help us. No, it wasn't Cherry the Soc who was helping us, it was Cherry the dreamer who watched sunsets and couldn't stand fights."

This refers to the fact that Cherry stood up for her beliefs.... for what was right, and she came forward to tell the truth about what really happened to Bob. Cherry wasn't speaking as Bob's girlfriend, and she wasn't merely trying to get the boys out of trouble, she was being true to herself and the way she saw the world. Cherry took the time to look.... like Ponyboy, she was a dreamer. Cherry dreamed that the world could be a better place.
