Femi Solaja is a ten-year-old boy from Nigeria and Sade's younger brother. The two young siblings flee Nigeria and travel illegally to England in order to wait for their father and escape the danger of their home country.

In the beginning of the novel, Femi is a playful young boy who enjoys football and spending time with his father. However, he becomes withdrawn and fearful of London's unfamiliarity, searching for more comfortable reminders of life in Nigeria. He also pulls away from Sade when she attempts to offer comfort and stability for him.

Throughout the novel, Femi changes from a carefree young boy who enjoys spending time with his sister and joking around into a young boy who turns inward when confronted with the traumatic new reality of his life. However, toward the end of the novel, Femi becomes a more active participant in Sade's plans, supporting his sister in her efforts to reunite the family.
