William Carey was a friend and servant to King Henry VIII. He and Mary Boleyn were married when she was thirteen-years-old. When King Henry takes a liking to Mary, she is forced to leave her husband while she has an affair that will last several years and produce two illegitimate children. The king rewards Sir William with riches, status, and landholdings in exchange for his wife. Over time he becomes bitter and angry at the humiliation of being "cuckolded". William dies shortly after being reunited with his wife after the king tires of her.
