This typewriter is a cover. Even though Sugar actually has a state of the art computer system on which she writes The Playing Fields Blog, she pretends to know nothing about computers or the Internet. In reality, she is very knowledgeable about technology. She leaves the typewriter out in sight so that people will believe that she uses this out of date machine for all of her correspondence and has not embraced technology.
