Who is Adam

Alan is a stranger who appears near the end of the novel. Debra wakes up screaming after finding him sleeping under her bed skins next to her. He reveals the existence of the Mavericks, a secret group of escaped people from the City who have been living in the Wilderness in hiding for years. He spends a day with the Community, but disappears the next morning, taking with him their beloved Cast Iron.
