A stereotypically manly man, Carl is a natural leader of the Community due to his hyper masculinity. He dominates in physical fights and is the most sexually potent. His temper gets him into verbal altercations with others, but ultimately, his innate charm and persuasive power keep him in everyone’s favor. When the Newcomers arrive, they immediately assume he is the group’s leader, a role which he happily takes on until Bea arrives. He and Bea become a power couple at the end of the study, co-leading the Community through its final years before the Roundup.
