The many settings in the book, from planets, to habitats, to ships, to asteroids, are separated from each other by political description, not physical description. The many environments, the pastoral agrarian fields of Norfolk, the Amazonian jungle of Lalonde, the rolling hills of the Tranquility Habitat, are only hinted in the short introductions to scene changes. Most of the scenery is implied, rather than explicitly stated.
