For irony to be successful, the Suprise endings of a story must be believable. is the ending of The Necklace beliavable? Why or Why not?

The twist and situational irony is interesting. If we are willing to suspend our disbelief that the necklace's worth was never discussed over a ten-year period, I suppose the ending works.
