Why is Adolphe arrested for the murders in The Murders in the Rue Morgue?

Adolphe is arrested for the murders because the police believe he is the only one with a motive. He had walked Madame L'Espanaye home with bags of gold and the police believe this is the reason he killed the women. Dupin believes he was arrested only because he was the only suspect.
