Why does Homer take Bob the horse with him when he leaves his uncle's home in the novel, The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg?

Homer takes Bob the horse with him because Bob once belonged to Homer's family. In taking Bob, Homer feels like he is reclaiming what should have been his.
