The Yemeni Civil War began in 2015 when a group of rebels called Houthis took over Yemen’s central government. The Houthis felt that they had generally disenfranchised by the government. Violent conflict soon erupted between Houthis and anti-Houthi militias referred to as the popular committee. Mokhtar was in Yemen during the outbreak of this civil war, but he managed to escape and complete the revitalization of Yemeni specialty coffee production. The Yemeni Civil War continues in the present day.
