What is the setting of The Memoirs of Cleopatra: A Novel by Margaret George?

The majority of the story is set in Egypt, with the action centered around Alexandria, where Cleopatra rules and lives. The general settings are real, though the author has obviously taken some liberties with the details of the settings.
