Why does Lucrezia so enjoy the time she spends at the delizia (villa) in the novel, The Marriage Portrait?

The delizia is the country villa where Alfonso and Lucrezia go to live after their marriage. Lucrezia is delighted by her newfound independence as Duchess of Ferrara, and while her husband spends his days working or travelling, she is free to roam the grounds and paint at her leisure.
