Who is Ramon Santiago from The Mark: The Beast Rules the World and what is their importance?

Ramon Santiago is the man who told Jim Hickman that Carpathia was going to want a pig for sacrifice on the altar. Hickman unknowingly slips and tells Carpathia that Santiago had told him of a private conversation in Carpathia's office regarding a pig. As a result, Santiago is executed. A short time later, Hickman takes his own life.
