The primary conflict in the novel, The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B, revolves around Rose's (Josephine's) need for "true" love. Inside she believes that love can be attained by marriage..... contrary to what she believed, this wasn't the case. Thus, the inner conflict of her beliefs leads her to pursue the real thing.... to be loved fully and for herself.
