Moosbrugger is a murderer. He was tried during the first volume for the murder of a young woman prostitute and has particular difficulty with women. Moosbrugger argues that he is easily frightened by women and that he can be quite timid. Moosbrugger was usually financially poor and therefore normally also celibate - this was customary within the culture.

Moosbrugger is also known to be a big handsome fellow. During his trial he appears to have normally justified his own behavior, even in extreme cases. Due to this, others have sometimes viewed him as sane whereas others has concluded that he was insane.
