The Man Who Listens to Horses also has the motif of the importance of belief in oneself. Monty always holds true to his dream. He wishes to own a thoroughbred facility. Although everyone tells him it is impossible, Monty remains steadfast to this desire. In the end, his dream is indeed realized. One of his high school teachers gives Monty a grade of an "F" for an essay about owning a thoroughbred training facility. Monty refuses to rewrite the essay. Many years later this same teacher shows up and apologizes to Monty for his discouraging behavior.
