Who is Garrett from The Lying Game and what is their importance?

Garrett is Sutton's boyfriend, as well as a member of the soccer team. He is described as handsome and popular, but it is obvious that his main goal is to please Sutton. Garrett apparently doesn't notice anything different about Sutton when Emma steps into her place. Sutton recalls that Garrett is "damaged" but can't remember why.
