Imagery:

"It was a purple and red mass of swollen flesh, welts, and knots imposed one upon the another, some of them beginning to heal, some oozing the yellowish liquid of infection."

Simile:

"All of them laughed noisily and yelled at times, but in secret part of Georgie's mind, everything was quiet and peaceful like the garden was in the early part of the night."

Metaphor:

"Still the memories that hurt him were too sharp for him to speak; they made his face grow hot and this throat begin to tighten."
