The author describes Fawcett as a fifty-seven-year-old man, who stands just over six feet tall. Fawcett's long arms were corded with muscles, and although his hair was thinning, and his mustache had a touch of white, he was in such good shape that he could walk for days with little, if any, rest or nourishment. His nose was crooked, and his appearance was ferocious. His eyes were set close together, and no one was sure if his eyes were gray or blue.
