In Lord of the Rings, most of the hobbits have been absorbed, or partially absorbed (eaten) by the trees. Sam is helpless to know what to do to save them, when all of a sudden this man, Tom Bombadil shows up and tells the trees to 'spit' them out. He takes them back to his home for the night.
