The boys moan and groan when they were a hill and a sign that says "STEEP GRADE TRUCKS USE LOW GEAR." Although the hill is bad enough, the sign makes them aware that this is a difficult hill to climb when they are already tired and particularly at the pace that they're required to maintain.
