Who is Sparky Enea and Tiny Colletto from The Log from the Sea of Cortez and what is their importance?

Tiny Colleto and Sparky Enea are members of the three-person crew of the Western Flyer. They are hired in Monterey to join the expedition to the Sea of Cortez. Sparky and Tiny grew up together in Monterey, and they are presented as inseparable. Avid and successful fishermen, the two provide fresh fish to the expedition while in Mexico. Unfortunately, their skills at navigation are hampered while fishing, and the boat tends to go off-course during their watches.
