What is the symbolism of Faith's training corset in the novel, The Lie Tree?

The training corset is a symbol that Faith is sometimes still treated as a child and sometimes allowed into the world of the adults. Faith usually hates the fact that she is still relegated to the training corset, but there are a few times when she is glad for the freedom it allows (an adult corset is more restrictive of movements).
