Who is Knuckle from The Last of the Sky Pirates and what is their importance?

Knuckle is the slaughter-pilot, who rescues Rook from a log worm just as he reaches the Silver Pastures. The two becomes friends, and Knuckle accompanies Rook and Varis Lodd on their mission to free the enslaved banderbears at Foundry Glade.
