Hugh Tredennick was born in 1899 and died in 1982. He is credited with translating this edition of the Platonic dialogs. Tredennick achieved a double first in Classics from Trinity Hall at Cambridge and taught classics at Royal Holloway College. He later became Dean of the Faculty of the Arts where he presided in the giant city of London, England for four years,1956-1960.
