Who is Mazzic from The Last Command and what is their importance?

Mazzic is a smuggler: he attends the meeting at Whistler's Whirlpool on the planet Trogan accompanied by a Gotal and a vacant-faced woman with plaited hair. Mazzic resents Talon Karrde's "New Republic recruitment speech," but after the Imperial raid, agrees to fight the Empire, but with Ellor intends to do more than just gather information.
