Who is Gurun from The Lais of Marie de France and what is their importance?

Gurun appears in Le Fresne. He is a nobleman who falls in love with Le Fresne, but relents to become engaged to another woman who is of noble birth, who is coincidentally Le Fresne's lost twin sister.
