How does Sohrab react to the idea of being put back in an orphanage temporarily?

At first, Sohrab acts very brave at the idea of having to go back to an orphanage. He describes the situation as having to eat sour apples instead of waiting for them to ripen. Eventually though, Sohrab becomes quite panicked at the idea of having to return to a orphanage.
