What kind of people were attracted to Matthias and why?

The people who were attracted to Mathias were often those who'd suffered some kind of personal tragedy in their lives..... some kind of trauma. Others joined the group for nafarious reasons, such as the groups belief in "matched spirits", a belief that allowed for sex outside of marriage and promiscuity. It was the rampant discovery of numerous "matches' and the jealousy that accompanied them, which caused the community to be dissolved.
