In Chapter Three, Johansen has Joe settle Eve in his cottage. She has visited the place many times and it is in a tranquil, scenic place. Eve should be safe from any reporters there since no one even knows Joe Quinn owns it. The phone is unlisted, so she shouldn't be able to be found. She has all her equipment around her that Joe has brought up from her office. She has gone from the tropics and people around all the time to solitude. Eve's feeling of being watched at the cottage, however, foreshadows the dangers ahead.
