Who is Mma Makutsi from The Kalahari Typing School for Men and what is their importance?

Mma Makutsi is Mma Ramotswe's assistant at the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. She has also taken on the responsibilities of managing Mr. JLB Matekoni's business, the Tlokweng Road Speedy Motor. When Matekoni recovers from his depressive illness and returns to work, Mma Makutsi has more time to work with Mma Ramotswe and to think about her own situation.

Mma Makutsi is unmarried and responsible for caring for a sick brother. She is also having trouble making ends meet on her meager salary. In this novel, Mma Ramotswe suggests that marriage might repair Mma Makutsi's financial problem. Mma Makutsi, however, begins thinking about beginning her own business. In fact, Mma Makutsi does begin a business in this book that greatly improves her financial problems and leads to a brief romance with one of her students.
