What does Lena mean when she says she is seeing things through her chinese eyes?

In referring to her "Chinese eyes", Lena is actually referring to her Chinese heritage. Lena's parents came from very different backgrounds, thus, their cultural backgrounds would have have influenced her in different ways. Lena said her mother could see "with Chinese eyes", something she passed down to her daughter..... this refers to intuition, observation..... taking the time to notice. As a child, Lena can read her mother's thoughts, see her fears. As an adult, she applies that same sense of sight to "seeing" the things in her life as they really are.
