The central character of the play that bears Antigone's name represents courage, integrity, and commitment to honor. As the preparations made by John and Winston for the presentation of the play continue, it becomes clear that Winston and Antigone have a great deal in common. At the play's climax, Winston's own courage and integrity merge with those of Antigone, and for a brief moment, they inhabit the same moral and narrative voice.
