In Chapter 3, the conversations about security and the conversation with the painters foreshadows the arrival of the Blakes in Chapter Ten.

A bit later, Glass' invitation to Marnham to go out and "meet some girls" foreshadows their subsequent meeting in the following section, where they will meet Maria.... with whom they both become emotionally involved.
